I saw the most beautiful green hutch the other day, and it just made me realize even more how much I want a hutch! In a perfect world, I would have a big beautiful hutch to display all of my pretty dishes in. However, the size of our dining room just won’t permit this.
I had the idea to build some sort of shelf above the mirror to put all my little jars and fabulous finds on. I didn’t want to spend much money on this project, so I did what I always do and went to my thrift store. I knew I wouldn’t find what I wanted, but I could always find an old shelf and re-do it.
Now came the hard part, attaching the brackets to the 2×2’s. Warning!!! If you are a woodworker, you might want to just stop reading now! I am terrible at screwing and nailing stuff together, so I did what any reasonable chick would do and I busted out my hot glue gun. That’s right, I glued that sucker together! Then my hubby added some little hangy do-dads that we already had, and it was ready to hang.
I really love the look of it. It was exactly what the wall was missing. The dark stain on the shelf matches the table and it just makes the room. I finally had my perfect DIY dining room shelf for just $5.
Almost everything on the shelf came from the thrift store. Imagine my surprise and delight when I saw those adorable pottery barn bunny canisters for only a few dollars!
I wouldn’t mind having a few more of these around the house. I’ll just have to keep an eye out next time I’m thrifting.
I couldn’t resist bringing in a few pussy willow branches to usher in spring. In just a few short weeks I’ll be filling up those vases with tulips!
