I’ll admit it… I have a hard time throwing things away. I try not to be wasteful and reuse what I can. I think it’s kind of fun to see what I can create by turning a “trash” item into a treasure.
My daughter had a pair of boots that were no longer wearable because the zipper was broken. Someone with sewing experience could have probably sewn in a new zipper, but I am not that person. I decided to salvage what I could and turn the old boots into hair accessories.
Aren’t these boots cute? I couldn’t just throw them away, so I cut the bows and leather straps off to re-purpose.
hot glue gun
I started by hot gluing the leather strap around the end of the hair clip.
Continue gluing all the way across the top of the clip, and wrap the extra around the tip so it doesn’t glue the clip shut.
I found this curly ribbon in my craft supplies and decided I would use it on the hair clips to add a little color.
I cut the ribbon into smaller pieces and hot glued them to the hair clips.
I simply glued a small button to the center and my hair clips were done.
My daughter was delighted to see that her new hair clips matched her favorite dress. (I would like to say I planned this, but I didn’t)
For the headband, I simply glued the leather strap on. That’s it.
I hot glued the small bows from the boots onto the headband for a simple embellishment.
This leather headband is the perfect accessory for a girl who is about to start the 6th grade! (And yes, she dipped her hair in red kool-aid and it still hasn’t washed out after two months!)
See, it is possible to make hair accessories out of an old boot.
