Do you ever go over to someones house and spot the most gorgeous dishes just sitting in their china hutch and think, those would make the most beautiful tablescape EVER! Or is it just me? I have been eyeing my mother-in-law’s antique red dish set for about ten years now. The set originally belonged to her mother and date all the way back to the 1940’s. I finally decided I was going to make this red and green Christmas tablescape thing happen and I hauled the precious red cargo all the way from her house to mine. My amazing mother-in-law actually said “don’t worry if you break one, they’re just glass.” Can you imagine?!? I wouldn’t have slept for weeks!
I have had the pine cone dishes sitting in my basement for years just waiting to be paired up with some red dishes for Christmas.
I wanted to keep the centerpiece very simple, so I stuck a few pinion boughs around a few glass cylinders and floated some fresh cranberries.
I have actually always loved gold and burgundy at Christmas, but this year the red and green is just stunning.
You wouldn’t believe how much I borrowed to make this table setting happen. As mentioned, the red dishes are my mother-in-law’s, the red chargers under the plates are my mothers, the white lace tablecloth belonged to my grandmother and the red scarf table-runner is my daughters.
There were so many red dishes, I used them on all of my open kitchen shelving too. I will be sharing more about the shelves in another post.
The table-runner couldn’t have been easier. I just took my daughters scarf and threw it out on the table.
I wonder if my mother in law would notice if this bowl didn’t make it back to her house? I’m kind of in love with it.
As I look at this picture, I’m already getting ideas for next year!
Now, I just need to get these dishes back to their rightful owner before I break something!
